A series of skills and employment workshops aimed at helping people into work are being held next week to celebrate UK Employability Day.

Croydon Works, Good Employer Croydon and London Learning Consortium have teamed up to run the event on Friday 14 July, where interactive sessions on the world of work will be taking place throughout the day.

There will be help on offer with CV writing, interview skills, signing up to training courses and finding work placements in a bid to further assist people in getting their next job, whether it’s their first step on the career ladder or they are looking to progress further within their current profession.

The event which will also be providing information on health and well-being services and housing support, will be attended by a number of local employers including Ikea, Gatwick Airport, Axis Europe, Octavo and Croydon University Hospital. It will take place at TMRW Hub on High Street between 10am and 4pm.

On Monday July 17, Croydon Works, a jobs brokerage service set up by the council and partners, is hosting a careers information day in partnership with the Home Office. A series of workshops will be held detailing the current jobs available at the government department and tips will also be given on how to apply to these roles.

Councillor Mark Watson, cabinet member for economy and jobs, said: “These events are two fantastic opportunities for those who are looking for work, want to progress further in their career or even fancy a career change to get support and information to aide their development.

“Being in work or signing up to a training course not only boosts a person’s skills, but also their confidence. I hope local people seize this opportunity to find out more about how they can get into local jobs.”
