Croydon ‘a rarity’ in exceeding housing targets

Croydon is one of only a handful of boroughs in the capital which is actually building more homes than its set target.

In terms of completed new homes, the borough is one of only five in London which either met or exceeded targets set for 2013 in the London Plan, according to research from Estates Gazette.

In the past year Croydon has fulfilled 118 per cent of its laid-down house-building target.

Only Merton, on 125 per cent, fared better. The only other boroughs to meet their targets were Bromley (106), Hounslow (103) and Sutton (100).

However the picture across the capital was far bleaker. Of the 33,000 new homes needed across London last year, only half were delivered.
