Over the next few years, Croydon’s two main shopping centres, Whitgift and Centrale, will be transformed into a world class retail and leisure destination, through the Croydon Partnership of Westfield and Hammerston.
The £1.4bn project will bring an outstanding retail, leisure and residential complex to the centre of Croydon, acting as a catalyst for the town’s wider regeneration. The 2m sq ft scheme includes over 1.3m sq ft of prime retail, leisure and dining space, public realm, improved car parking facilities and up to 600 new residential units. It will feature more than 300 shops, restaurants and cafes, a multi-screen cinema and bowling alley, new public realm, improved access plus more than 3,000 parking spaces.
The shopping complex will be Westfield’s third in the capital after Stratford and Shepherd’s Bush. Hammerson owns north London’s main shopping centre destination at Brent Cross, which is also being expanded.
