Just 15 minutes by train from East Croydon, Gatwick Airport is the UK’s second largest airport and the most efficient single-runway airport in the world.
It serves more than 200 destinations in 90 countries for over 40 million passengers a year on short and long-haul point-to-point services.
Around 45 airlines operate from the airport including British Airways, easyJet, Norwegian Air, Emirates, Monarch, Thomas Cook, Thomson, Turkish Airlines and Virgin.
In addition it is now seeing the emergence of long-haul services to the Far East with the arrival of Turkish Airlines and Garuda Indonesia. These complement the existing long haul services provided by airlines such as Emirates and Norwegian.
Croydon stands to gain economically if Gatwick Airport is granted a second runway with the creation of thousands of jobs and the local authority and the airport have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding guaranteeing benefits for the borough should the expansion be approved.
